VENTING 1/23/2013
I will try to have most of my posts be positive, thought provoking, and hopefully upbeat. However, I am human, and from time to time there will be something that I need to scream about. So, since it's early in the evolution of Sadie's Gathering, and not many will probably see this, here's my first less than sparkly post.
What's is so hard about writing a classified ad? Right now, in addition to writing this blog, I am, and have been job hunting for the past 9 months. Everyday, I am amazed as I look over job sites, and look at job descriptions.
First, what company is this for? To what purpose does it serve to leave the company's name out? I have many years of experience, but I do not want to work for some companies. This reminds me of when I was younger and got frustrated over apartment ads. "Cozy adorable 2 bdrm, must see! Near north. If interested call, 999-999-9999" Really?! What's the rent? Why should I bother? I am going to find out some time- might as well tell me now, so I can decide if that is in my price range, or go on to another. Aargh! Back to the job listing, why not tell me who you are?
Next, Successful, newer concept, expanding. Need experienced, with solid work record, and flexible, willing to work 50+ hours, salary negotiable. AHAHAHAHAHA!!! VAGUE! AMBIGUOUS! What the flip?!!! This description fits 80% of the restaurant concepts that have opened in the last 20 years!
Why not tell me who, what, where, and how much? People need jobs, but there is only 24 hours in a day, and few are willing to drive 50 miles a day, work for whoever, do whatever, for whatever, and smile about it. Ugh... and even if they do, won't be for long, and then you're right back where you started, and lots of time and money has been wasted. Shame, shame, shame.
I know this is not one of my eloquent posts, but had to be done. There. Have a nice day.
