Street musicians in New Orleans |
When I was first thinking about starting Sadie's Gathering, I imagined a cartoonish kitchen where the main posts would be on the table, and as one looked around the cozy kitchen you'd want to pull up a chair and snuggle in for a bit. The kitchen would have a recipe box, a wine rack, CD player/radio, a folded up newspaper on the table, and the view out the bay window would change seasons as well as location. Each of these features would pop up to show daily news; give options to different music; different types of recipes, etc.
Two years into it, while there are aspects that have come from my first imaging, it's quite a different format. We'll see what the future holds.
Since it is Valentine's Day, and as with "FLOWERS!FLOWERS!FLOWERS!" and "BRING ON THE CHOCOLATE!", here's some music that might inspire the love.
Remember when MTV and VH1 used to show videos? Here's a couple of my favorites, that always bring a smile.
For romantic music, one cannot go wrong with songs from the Great American Songbook. Songs of Cole Porter, the Gershwin brothers, Irving Berlin, Dorothy Fields, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, to name a few stand the test of time due to their melodies and lyrics that resonate with everyone.
Here are some of the great interpreters of their music. The links are as follows: click the artist's name for a bit about them. The link with the song title, is a YouTube recording of the artist singing that song. When I could find, I also included some links for the song writers.
Ella Fitzgerald sings, "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" and "My Funny Valentine", both written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart
Louis Armstrong sings and plays, "A Kiss To Build A Dream On" written by Bert Kalmar, Harry Ruby and Oscar Hammerstein II.
Sarah Vaughan sings, "Misty" by Erroll Garner
Dean Martin sings, "Memories Are Made of This", written by Terry Gilkyson, Richard Dehr, and Frank Miller.
Dean Martin sings, "Memories Are Made of This", written by Terry Gilkyson, Richard Dehr, and Frank Miller.
and Dooley Wilson sings, "As Time Goes By" by Herman Hupfeld
and the list goes on...
Whatever music you choose to groove to; rock out with; or get down to the love with;
Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day.
